IPL Final Marred by DRS Glitch as Gurbaz’s Controversial Dismissal Sparks Outrage!
Batting first, the Sunrisers’ top order faltered, failing to deliver with the bat as the team lost crucial wickets at regular intervals, shifting the momentum towards KKR. The stupendous spell by KKR bowlers was instrumental in restricting the Orange Army to a modest total of 113, a score never likely to be enough for the Sunrisers to lift their second title. KKR’s pace artillery, particularly the duo of Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora, played a pivotal role in securing crucial breakthroughs early in the match.
The KKR batters appeared to be in attack mode from the very first ball, with the SRH bowlers being hit for runs left, right, and center. Experts were rendered speechless as they witnessed KKR’s batters dominating on the same pitch where SRH’s premier players, Travis Head and Heinrich Klassen, had failed to deliver.
Despite losing Sunil Narine early in their chase, Afghan prodigy Rahmanullah Gurbaz remained undeterred, continuing to bat aggressively to steer KKR towards their third IPL title. However, fans were left disgruntled when Gurbaz was given out LBW on a ball that was apparently missing his leg stump.
Confident that the ball was missing the stumps, Gurbaz opted for a review. However, the third umpire soon realized that all technologies, including Ultra-Edge and Ball Tracking, were unavailable, probably due to a technical glitch. This left the decision to be made based on a visual estimate of whether the ball had touched the bat and whether it was going on to hit the stumps.
Giving the benefit of the doubt to the on-field umpire, Gurbaz was declared out at a crucial juncture, leaving him dismissed 11 runs short of a dream half-century in the IPL Finals.
Unavailability of the decisive technologies during the big match sparked an outrage amongst the KKR fans who were left disgruntled to see their star opener miss out on a remarkable half-century on the day of the Finals.
Though Gurbaz’s dismissal might have been one of the few cherished moments for the SRH fans it ultimately proved to be inconsequential, as his splendid knock of 39 runs had already sealed the match for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Venkatesh Iyer’s flamboyant half-century turned out to be the only milestone achieved by any batter in the premier match. His fiery knock was instrumental in leading KKR to their third IPL title.
