India never won a single T20 World Cup ever since IPL began

India never won a single T20 World Cup ever since IPL began:

Overview:

The ongoing 17thedition of the Indian Premier League has already become one of the most successful seasons in the history of the league, with viewership and sponsorships reaching all-time highs. With T20 cricket expanding its footprint globally and new member states joining the ICC, the league is bound to flourish. Despite, all the success that the IPL has achieved during its course, it has failed to deliver on its primary goal of leading India to a triumphant T20 WC campaign.

India’s record with IPL and T20 WC:

India won their 1st ever T20 World Cup in the inaugural edition of the tournament back in 2007 but since then the ‘Men in Blue’  have failed to lay their hands on the prestigious trophy. The Indian Premier League was ushered in, a year later in 2008 as a part of BCCI’s long-term vision of popularizing the culture of T20 cricket in a world dominated by Tests and ODIs.

The league was designed to provide a level playing field to the Indian youngsters playing in the domestic circuit. BCCI envisioned the IPL as a league where Indian players would get the opportunity to play with premier international players from across the globe, which would eventually hone their skills and subsequently yield future matchwinners for team India.

India never won a single T20 World Cup ever since IPL began:

Despite the fact that the IPL has been immensely successful in delivering on BCCI’s goal of scouting high quality Indian players, it hasn’t lived up to the ultimate ambition of winning the World Cup in the shortest format of the game.

Ever since the beginning of the IPL, the performance of the ‘Men in Blue’ in the T20 World Cup has been quite dismal, the team has struggled to qualify for the knockout stages on multiple occasions. The last time when team India featured in the finals of the T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka back in 2014, the ‘Men in Blue’ were handed a humiliating defeat by Sangakkara’s men.

Since the humiliating debacle against Sri Lanka, Team India could never manage to make their way to the Finals of the prestigious tournament. They even failed to qualify for the knock-off stages in the 2021 edition of the tournament, but rebounded in the very next edition by qualifying for the Semi-Final leg of the tournament. Despite having a formidable lineup, the Men in Blue struggled under pressure and eventually succumbed to England in the all important knock-out encounter.

India’s disappointing performance at the World T20s cannot be dismissed as mere misfortune. Despite getting numerous opportunities to reclaim the prestigious trophy, the team has consistently faltered in crucial moments. Since their triumph in the 2013 Champions Trophy, India has consistently underperformed in ICC tournament knockout matches, earning them the infamous moniker: ‘chokers’.

Best Wishes for our Men in Blue:

The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup is all set to begin on 2nd of June this year. This edition of the tournament is going to be hosted by a couple of ICC member states- USA and West Indies. Once again, the opportunity for redemption has arrived and we as Indians will be going into this tournament with our long held dreams of clinching the title that we truly deserve.
